I’m writing to you as a concerned constituent and as someone deeply affected by the ongoing SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) crisis in the UK.

Families are being failed by a system that is underfunded, unlawful, and broken. Children are out of education for months (sometimes years!) with no appropriate school place, no support, and no accountability.

Over 92% of SEND tribunal appeals are won by families. That’s proof the system is routinely getting it wrong.

This is not just a crisis for disabled children. It's a national issue. When children are denied education, it leads to increased demand on mental health services, crisis care, benefits, and long-term state support. Taxpayers pay the price.

I’m urging you to:

✦ Demand full and protected funding for EHCPs across every local authority ✦ Hold councils accountable for unlawful delays and refusals ✦ Push for an independent review into the long-term cost of systemic failure
